For many football fans around the world, Liverpool FC is the official representative of English football. 18 league titles, 7 FA Cups, 5 European cups and 3 UEFA cups shows just how strong and significant a force Liverpool is.
Even though Liverpool's last league title was back in the 1988/89 season, the club is considered to be a strong contender for major honours this season.
With Rafael Benitez at the helm, Liverpool has shown great improvement, winning the 2004/05 Champions League, reaching the final again in 2006/07, and last season finishing 3rd in the Premiership.
Liverpool went through a mediocre season, finishing 4th and not posing any threat on the leading pack, while losing in the champions league Semi Finals. Will this season be any different? We find it hard to see it happen, as no big names were brought in. A major transfer bid for Aston Villa's Garreth Barry is yet to be completed and when you spend £20M on Robbie Keane, you cannot be considered as a title contender. Sorry.
Bottom Line: Robbie Keane?! Liverpool will not achieve more than 4th place.
