Manchester United is one of the most popular sporting clubs in the world, with over 50 million fans worldwide. This is due to worldwide branding, extremely attractive football, and a trophy cabinet full to the brim.
Alex Ferguson's arrival back in 1986 signalled the return of Manchester United to the top of English football. More than 20 years without a league title came to an end in 1992/93 season, and since then Manchester United is without doubt the most successful club in the Premiership. Never the less, this summer made us forget the last couple of season, as everyone focused on the endless transfer saga of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. True, Ronaldo was United's best player last season, but his possible transfer consumes too much time and energy from the club. This might harm them, as Chelsea is busy rebuilding, while Sir Alex is busy fighting with his Spanish counterparts.
This does not change a simple fact - as long as Alex Ferguson is at the helm Manchester United are clear contenders for any title, whether it be the Carling Cup or the Champions League. This applies whether Ronaldo wears United shirt next season or not.
Bottom Line: United must end this Ronaldo story, sooner rather than later.
