Preview: Stockport vs. Wycombe
15-May-2008
For the entire 90 minutes we saw an evenly matched game between hosts Wycombe Wanderers and Stockport County. This was consolidated by Stephen Gleeson’s 82nd minute strike, this was the equalizer for Stockport County to cement their position as the favourites to emerge as winners from this semi final.
Now Wycombe have mountain to climb. True, the Chairboys have not lost the tie, but their away record throughout the season is far from impressive, especially for a team who finished 7th.
Since away goals are insignificant, Stockport know they can’t sit back and hope for a 0-0 draw. They will have to win this home game in order to get to Wembley. Wycombe’s away record, as we already mentioned, is far from brilliant, but they are certainly not pushovers.
Still, for most of the season Stockport considered themselves as legit candidates for automatic promotion, and we can’t see them letting such an opportunity slip, and they will use their home advantage to go through. This will be easier if Liam Dickinson, their leading goal scorer, will not be as quiet as he was in the 1st leg.
